July-August 2010 Daily Decibel Readings

On this page you will find ongoing daily decibel readings of aircraft noise over Brooklyn, New York in the neighborhood of Park Slope and Bedford-Stuyvesant.  The charts are listed in reverse chronological order.  These are actual readings taken by an ISO-certified digital decibel meter located at ground level in Park Slope, Brooklyn, 151 feet above sea level (MSL).

Yellow Line on Charts: The yellow line also represents 65 dBA, the federally accepted standard for harmful noise to humans.

White Line on Charts: The FAA's undocumented (no environmental studies conducted), non evidentiary claim to the dBA sound levels that residents of Brooklyn would experience with the implentation of their Airspace Redesign Initiative, which, among other reasons, is the cause for so much aircraft noise in Kings County. The FAA's document asserting this "fact" can be found here.
